About Emotional Freedom Techniques

Where did EFT come from?
EFT has its roots in ancient Chinese medicine and the modern science of Applied Kinesiology.

EFT as we know it today began with the pioneering work done by Gary Craig in the late 1990’s. Since then Gary Craig and other contributors have gone on to develop and refine the technique so that it has become easier to use, more elegant and even more powerful so that the resolutions produced can seem miraculous.

How does EFT work?
The basic theory is that the cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body's energy system. EFT restores the bodies natural balance, removes the energy disruption and thereby removes the problem.

With remarkable consistency, EFT relieves symptoms by an unusual (but scientific) routine of tapping with the fingertips on specific points on the energy meridians which neutralises disruptions in your body's electrical system.

This process has been likened to someone sticking a screwdriver into the back of a television set. Naturally, you will get a “Zzzt..” short-circuit and the television will malfunction. EFT removes the screwdriver, and restores the televisions correct operation.

It is the subject of much speculation why pain and physical problems respond to EFT in the same way as emotional problems. The answers are being slowly found as science begins to catch up with what we are actually doing when working with energy therapies and some of the mechanisms are already well-documented. Other areas are still obscure but it is already crystal clear that a high percentage of physical problems have their origins in emotional disturbances-resolve these and the physical manifestation then heals itself.

Do you have to believe in EFT for it to work?
Absolutely not. EFT works whether you believe in it or not. It doesn’t matter if the practitioner believes in it or not. The way we look at this question is that you don’t have to believe in drugs for them to work or understand the biochemical effects of the drug within the body, and neither does your doctor, but they work anyway. So why shouldn’t EFT be the same?

Are there any side-effects?
EFT is very gentle and rarely has any side effects. It is often combined with or used instead of other procedures, because of its gentle nature. In my experience, people often feel energised after an EFT session. The only other side effects are good ones, where treating one problem will cause another problem to heal, spontaneously.

How long do the results last?
EFT is almost always long lasting provided that all aspects (components) of a problem have been identified and dealt with.  Physical healings are often impressive and enduring as well but are more likely to re-emerge until the emotional aspects are dealt with appropriately.

How long does it take me to heal?
Unfortunately there are no hard and fast rules that may be applied here, because every problem is different, and every person is different.

Deeply rooted behaviours or beliefs often take longer to eliminate than simpler problems as there are more aspects to be dealt with.

Usually a person with even the most deeply seated problems to start seeing real benefits within (at worst) a few weeks, and some people
(at best) within a few minutes.

But ultimately these techniques will rid us of the excess emotional baggage so that we are free to get on with our lives and realise the full range of our potential and freedom.
